Smith Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine is the pinnacle of physical therapy and sports medicine in the region. Dr. Michael Smith PT/AT/DPT is a dual licensed physical therapist/athletic trainer with over 20 years of experience in orthopedics and sports medicine. He has provided compassionate, quality, evidenced based orthopedic and sports medicine care throughout the state of Michigan and Florida. He has worked with athletes at all levels including high school, division I, II, and III collegiate and professional sports including the Detroit Lions Football Organization. He has worked with clients of all ages for various orthopedic and sports injuries/conditions including but not limited to total joint replacements, ankle sprains/strains, ACL reconstruction, meniscal injuries, rotator cuff tears/injuries, cervical pain and carpal tunnel syndromes. He also specializes in treatment of a vertigo condition called benign positional paroxysmal vertigo (BPPV), a common acute vestibular disorder that causes people to feel a spinning sensation with head motions.
Dr. Smith is a family man, happily married to his wife of 15 years, his family includes 3 teens active in local sports and music programs. Outside of practice and raising a young family, you will find the doctor enjoying music, sports, and the outdoors.
Smith Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine is founded on patient centered care. You will be listened to, individually evaluated, and a treatment plan will be tailored to your specific needs. Quality of care means every visit you will see and receive care from Dr. Smith directly.
Smith Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine is considered an out-of-network provider and therefore a cash-based practice. At request, you can be provided with a "superbill" or itemized receipt, which details information you need to submit a claim to your insurance company for reimbursement. You may be able to receive reimbursement or credit towards your deductible or out of pocket amount. I recommend reaching out to your insurance company prior to your first appointment with any questions about your out-of-network benefits as all insurance companies are different.
Let's face it, the healthcare system is broken. Providing care within a cash-based model allows me to provide customized care that is tailored specifically to each client without being limited by an insurance company. I am able to provide personalized, one-on-one care exclusively to you every visit, have the ability to treat several body parts during the same care plan, provide you with transparency about the cost of every visit up front with no surprise bills, and more access to your physical therapist outside the treatment sessions.
My services, compared to insurance based services, is anywhere from 50-75% of the total cost! I can offer that saving to you as I do not need to employee a referral specialist, a biller, a coder and an insurance authorization specialist. You get better quality care with faster results only from a licensed professional for a cheaper cost!
Michigan is a direct access state which means that you can be seen for physical therapy over a period of 10 visits or 21 days before needing to be referred back their physician for continued care. However, some insurance companies require a script for self-reimbursement. Please check with your insurance company regarding their requirements and policy for out-of-network physical therapy reimbursement. We can work together to secure you a prescription if needed.
Medicare prohibits non-Medicare providers from taking cash for clients that are covered under Medicare. I am not a Medicare provider and not able to see Medicare patients for physical therapy. Medicare subscribers are eligible for Wellness evaluations/visits.
Payment is due before the time of service. I currently accept cash, check, credit card, HSA and FSA. I advise that you review what is reimbursable with your specific insurance plans.
If you have any questions related to these services, please call me! I am happy to discuss any therapy related and service questions with you!
If getting out to the gym is too challenging for you, we can set up an in-home visit (depending on your location) or via telehealth! Please ask! The most important part is to get you the quality care you deserve!
